A few months ago the Minister of Ecological Transition, Roberto Cingolani, It reaffirmed what is an increasingly widespread thought in the political and institutional sphere. There ecological transition, this is his message, it will not be "a gala dinner". That is to say that, like all the great changes required of society and the economy, it will involve sacrifices and above all strategic choices. "But we have no alternative but to work together in one direction, leaving no one behind." Only a few weeks to go Festival del Futuro - yesterday, Wednesday 27 October, the cycle of previews closed with the appointment Waiting for the Festival in Vicenza (here the link to watch the live broadcast) -, an event that has several panels dedicated to climate and sustainability scheduled. What we report today, Climate change: how long do we have?, is scheduled for Saturday 20 November from 16:30. Here to read the whole program.

The numbers of climate change

From 1970 to 2019 the WMO, the world meteorological organization, has calculated the succession of 11 thousand extreme events that have caused more 2 million dead. But accounting is not only tragic from this point of view. "Meteorological, climatic and water risks - continues the study cited by the ASviS, the Italian Alliance for Sustainable Development - they made up the 50% of all extreme global events, the 45% of all reported deaths and the 74% of economic losses ". To the Festival del Futuro (18/20 November in Verona and live streaming) one of the keywords, which we have been discussing for months on our site with interviews and insights, is the transition. That transition which, net of the difficulties in adopting new approaches and lifestyles, really seems to be the priority in the eyes of citizens.

According to the first investigation into the matter of the Bei (European Investment Bank) not only does the Italian 88% believe that combating climate change is the challenge of the century, but that already today climate change has a direct influence on one's daily life (91% thinks so, given above the European average of 77%). To the Festival del Futuro the debate will touch on the question from several points of view, precisely to restore both the complexity and the urgency of the choices to be made both in the political sphere and at the individual level.
